S. psittacina<\/span><\/em>\u00a0also known as the parrot pitcher plant, is\u00a0probably the most unusual of all the species of\u00a0Sarracenia\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0features a completely different pitcher shape and trapping strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pitcher opening is shaped like a tunnel and leads to an inflated globe shaped upper pitcher lined with fenestrations (transparent sections or “light windows”). These are thought to help lure prey towards the lower pitcher where they are trapped by coarse downward pointing hairs. The plant for sale will turn a nice red colour when exposed to full sun that is contrasted beautifully by the spekling of fenstration in the upper pitcher.<\/span><\/p>\n

S. psittacina\u00a0<\/i>also makes a great terraium plant as it only needs a very minimal dormancy period.<\/span><\/p>\n
