S. psittacina<\/span><\/em>\u00a0also known as the parrot pitcher plant, is\u00a0probably the most unusual of all the species of\u00a0Sarracenia\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0features a completely different pitcher shape and trapping strategy.\u00a0The pitcher opening is shaped like a tunnel and leads to an inflated globe shaped upper pitcher lined with fenestrations (transparent sections or \u201clight windows\u201d). These are thought to help lure prey towards the lower pitcher where they are trapped by coarse downward pointing hairs.<\/span><\/p>\n
