Without a doubt Nepenthes lowii<\/em> is one of the true wonders of the plant kingdom and once of the most unusual and spectacular of all carnivorous plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rare in nature and cultivation, N. lowii<\/em> is a highland species endemic to a handful of isolated mountain peaks in Borneo. N. lowii<\/em> typically inhabits mossy, upper montane forest with high humidity and good light. It’s equally famous for it’s bizarre appearance as it is for the fact that that mature pitchers\u00a0have evolved away from a primarily carnivorous habit to function as toilets for tree shrews and birds, deriving valuable nutrients from their droppings in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

N. lowii<\/em> produces some of the coolest and most bizarre pitchers of all Nepenthes<\/em>. The dark purple lower pitchers feature a toothy, multicolored peristome and bizarre bristles that grow down from the inside of the lid.<\/span><\/p>\n

The upper pitchers are large and have a distinct hour-glass shape, bulbous at the bottom, constricted in the middle with a highly flared funnel shaped upper pitcher. These amazing large woody pitchers truly resemble kaleidoscopic\u00a0toilets!<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this species is well know to be a slow grower especially when young, we’re offering nice, well-established small plants (~4cm\/1.5 ” across) that are already going through there first major growth spurt and ready to thrive in their new homes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sans doute Nepenthes lowii<\/em> est l’une des vraies merveilles du r\u00e8gne v\u00e9g\u00e9tal et une des plus insolites et spectaculaires de toutes les plantes carnivores. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rare dans la nature et la culture, N. lowii<\/em> est une esp\u00e8ce de haute montagne end\u00e9mique \u00e0 une poign\u00e9e de sommets isol\u00e9s \u00e0 Born\u00e9o. N. lowii<\/em> habite habituellement une for\u00eat de mousse de montagne sup\u00e9rieure avec une humidit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e et une bonne lumi\u00e8re. Il est tout aussi c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pour son apparence bizarre que pour le fait que ces pichets matures de N. lowii<\/em> ont \u00e9volu\u00e9 loin d’une habitude principalement carnivore pour fonctionner comme des toilettes pour les musaraignes d’arbres et les oiseaux tirant des nutriments pr\u00e9cieux de leurs excr\u00e9ments dans le processus. <\/span><\/p>\n

N. lowii<\/em> produit quelques-uns des pichets les plus cool et les plus bizarres de tous les Nepenthes<\/em>. Les pichets inf\u00e9rieurs pourpre fonc\u00e9 comportent un peristome multicolore dent\u00e9 et des poils bizarres qui poussent \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur du couvercle. Les pichets sup\u00e9rieurs sont grands et ont une forme de verre d’une heure distincte. Bulb\u00e9e en bas, resserr\u00e9e au milieu avec un pichet sup\u00e9rieur en forme d’entonnoir \u00e0 \u00e9vasement. Ces \u00e9tonnants pichets boisiers ressemblent vraiment aux toilettes kal\u00e9idoscopiques! <\/span><\/p>\n

Bien que bien connu comme un producteur lent, surtout lorsqu’il est jeune, nous offrons des petites plantes agr\u00e9ables et bien \u00e9tablies (~ 4cm \/ 1.5 “de large) qui traversent d\u00e9j\u00e0 la premi\u00e8re pouss\u00e9e de croissance majeure pr\u00eate \u00e0 prosp\u00e9rer dans leurs nouvelles maisons. <\/span><\/p>\n
