What can we say, Nepenthes hamata has it all! Without a doubt one of the most sought after and rare of all carnivorous plants.

Endemic to upper and lower montane mossy forests of the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi. N. hamata features pitchers with spectacular, highly flanged “toothy” peristomes, striking colouration and form, as well as crazy looking, medusa-like bristles that project off the lid. These features only become more pronounced (and awesome) with age and the upper pitchers may be the most viciously bizarre traps of all carnivorous plants.

Although not particularly difficult to grow if given standard highland growing conditions, we’ve found that N. hamata has a couple of peculiarities in it’s growing preferences compared to most Nepenthes. The native habitat of N. hamata has very high humidity, wet soils, and it often somewhat shaded, in order to grow this species well these conditions should be mimicked in cultivation as closely as possible.

Because of its rarity and it’s strong preference for stable, humid highland conditions, we recommend N. hamata for experienced growers only.

Supply is extremely limited!
